Kathie Lee and Hoda recently had a segment "Clear Clutter From Your Life" featuring guest Gail Blanke, author of "Throw Out 50 Things." Click here and check out this clip. This lady will really get you motivated. She got one woman so motivated, the lady reported back that the first thing she got rid of was the man she had lived with for eleven years. Now, I call that deep cleaning. You may visit Gail Blanke's website here for tips.
I am getting the urge to purge and now I am really motivated after seeing this clip. I think I got my desire to toss things out or give away items from my grandmother. She was always getting rid of things. Some of these things were quite valuable and this did upset her four daughters more than a few times.
Getting rid of the clutter makes me feel good. I have made more than a few people happy with the items I have given away. If I have not worn an outfit in two years, then I probably never will -- so I usually toss. I have a few sentimental pieces that I keep. No matter how many clothes I have in my closet, I tend to wear my "favorites for the season” over and over again anyway.
Soon, I will be in my de-clutter mode -- cleaning out clothes, kitchen items, accessories. I already have bags of items gathering in a corner just waiting to find a new home. If I have not used that George Foreman Grill or I have dust settling on accessories in my closet – it is time to toss. I just can't be sentimental about the blue and mauve place mats I got back in the late 80's as a wedding gift. It is all about simplifying -- one of my favorite words.
Compared to “other peoples stuff, I am proud to say I have very little, although my husband might disagree --he thinks I have quite a lot of “stuff.” I must say, we do have quite a collection of golf clubs sitting in a corner in the garage -- I just wonder how much that "stuff" is worth!
If you have items you have grown tired of, then it is time for you to purge, clean out, re-organize and maybe even make a little money. Have a garage sale, go to a consignment shop, use Craigs List or donate to charity and write it off. I think it will make you feel good to de-clutter. You have to be creative about how you can put a little extra money back in your pocket!
