Who remembers when digital cameras hit the market. I bought my first one for several hundred dollars and today you can get one ten times better and a fifth of the cost. I remember the first SanDisk I purchased. I was at a specialty camera shop and a 540 mg (not even a gig) was selling for $139. Luckily, I did not buy it at that time but looked around and found it at Walmart for $75.
For just simple digital cameras you can get a SanDisk 2 GB SD Memory Card ( SDSDB-2048-A11, Retail Package)
for $8.29.
For the advanced camera user, you can get a Transcend 8 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card TS8GSDHC6
for $20.
"WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "SD CARDS" AND "SDHC CARDS?
SDHC is an upgrade to the older SD cards. Upgraded to achieve greater data transfer speeds AND capacity than previously possible with normal SD cards... and to do this, they had to redesign the card (which is why it's not compatible with normal SD devices/card readers). This was necessary because digital cameras and digital video cameras these days have higher resolutions, which equate to larger file sizes and faster data transfer needs."
I recently went on a trip and only carried a 1 gig and a 2 gig. I won't make that mistake again. I did not know they even made an 8GB -- one of the travellers on the trip had one and it lasted the entire time.
One last thing, when travelling and getting your camera gear together... be prepared with extra charged batteries. Both Leslie and I missed a full day of pictures because both of our camera batteries needed to be recharged.
Special Note: SDHC cards are not compatible with most older SD cameras, SD devices, or SD card readers.
