I have been talking about having a garage sale since spring and just never got around to it. I am not usually a procrastinator but for some reason, I just could not get it together.
This week it really hit me that our daughter leaves for college in about ten days so I decided I better put things in high gear and take advantage of her while she is still at home. She is a great organizer and a tremendous help with all the projects around the house. Sometimes I feel like the child and she is the mother -- especially when I don't put something back is its rightful place.
Wednesday, I made up my mind to have the sale so I quickly called the newspaper and ran the ad -- I was definitely not prepared for a sale but I knew if I ran the ad, I would be trapped.
So the ad goes in the paper Wednesday and on Thursday we went shopping for dorm room items like there was no tomorrow. I guess it was about 5:00 PM Thursday evening when I realized what I had done. There is nothing like a little pressure to get me going but I now wonder why I had to have the sale on Friday and Saturday - why not just Saturday. I can't remember my reasoning but I am sure it made sense at the time.
With my daughter's help, we pulled and weeded through items and I was ready to go by noon today when we were hit by an onslaught of professional garage sale junkies. I must also add that my wonderful neighbor came over and spent the afternoon with me helping out - could not have done it with her either.
We had a great day, made a lot of money and will be getting ready for the next batch of folks tomorrow. Still have lots of treasures and pulling some new ones tonight. Also, since I am no longer working in the business world, I am saying goodbye to all my beautiful Talbots and Chicos cloths and it feels good!
I am looking forward to "uncluttered" closets and getting rid of the things that just seem to be hanging around for no reason.
Everyone should Simplify!
